ChatStack MCP
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets an AI assistant call ChatStack directly. You get the interview, the PRD, and later the portal tools — without copying a document into the chat.
Why use MCP instead of a pasted PRD
A pasted file goes stale. MCP keeps the assistant on the live pack: it can run the interview, then (after you submit) read and update stories, requirements, and the build prompt from the portal. ChatGPT users who do not want to edit a config file can start with the ChatStack ChatGPT plugin.
Two servers
| Server | When | Auth |
|---|---|---|
| Interview MCP | Start here. Idea through estimate and PRD submit. | None |
| Portal MCP | After a PRD exists. Edit the pack, Improve, and Build. | Personal access token from the portal |
Interview MCP cannot call portal tools. Portal MCP cannot run the public interview. Keep both if you want the full path.
Which clients
Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Windsurf, OpenClaw, and other hosts that accept an MCP server. The config shape is the same; each host stores it in a different file or settings screen. Some hosts take the URL as Streamable HTTP instead of a JSON file. ChatGPT users can also enable the published plugin instead of pasting a server address.
Paste blocks and the exact production URLs are in the MCP setup guide.
Frequently asked questions
- What is ChatStack MCP?
- ChatStack MCP is how Cursor, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Windsurf, OpenClaw, and other Model Context Protocol clients talk to ChatStack. The assistant calls ChatStack tools instead of you pasting a PRD into the chat.
- What is the difference between interview MCP and portal MCP?
- Interview MCP needs no account. It runs the interview through submit. Portal MCP needs a personal access token from the portal after a PRD exists, and can keep editing the pack, including Improve and Build.
- Where do I paste the MCP config?
- Paste blocks are in the MCP setup guide. Start with the public interview server. Add portal MCP only after you submit a PRD and create a token.
